Stephen Oxford has been researching both the churchyard of All Saints, Upper Norwood and of Mr Aubin’s School that stood in the ‘Triangle’. The research has uncovered that 900 children lie in All Saint’s churchyard.
At Norwood Society’s next local history meeting Stephen will tell the story of some of those children and their pauper families. We hope to see you all at 7.30 pm on Thursday 17th November at the Upper Norwood Library, Westow Hill, SE19 1TJ.

There will be refreshments and although there is no charge for entry organisers hope people will give a generous donation so they can reach their target of at least £3 per head.

“We are now paying an increased rent to the Library for the Trust has to generate an income to ensure the Library continues to serve the Norwood community” said a spokesperson.

“The Library contains a wealth of local history material on Norwood and at the December social evening we will talk about this and the exciting project that we have for the New Year. “In this we intend to include as many of you as are interested.”

Mmmmn; Gorgeous high grade smoked butter; whole bunch of yummy,delicately smoked cheese.  All served with a smile, some good chat, and backed-up by the original wheelbarrow soundsystem.

Cheese & cured meats – Capo Caccia Antonio is bringing us “unpasteurised honey, Sardinian pasta, pane carasau, pancetta, fennel salami, wild boar salami, organic saffron pecorino, cow’s milk peretta.”

Mediterranean – Hellas Farm  Ready to eat beans, oils and more. Their fasolada (haricot beans in tomato sauce) is particularly delicious.

Clarkshaws: Free beer, yes really

Beer – Clarkshaws Brewery Lucy says “This week we’re giving a free bottle of Phoenix Rising ruby session ale with every purchase while stocks last.”

Wine – Wine Scouts Pedro’s ode to wine this week goes like this “This Saturday I’m opening –  Le P’tit Blanc du Clos du Tue-Bœuf, from the Loire Valley in France. An organic Sauvignon Blanc, from mostly young vines. Careful vineyard work and selection, coupled with natural vinification give this wine aromatic complexity and depth. This wine evolves quite a bit from citrus-driven early moments, to more subtle oxidative notes and quince aromas, and growing weight over course of a day or two. Thierry and Jean-Marie Puzelat—brothers—are natural wine royalty. They are making some of the Loire’s most interesting wines and are at the heart of the natural wine movement.”

We also have bunches of farm carrots for all markets.

Gill Wing Farm: Farmer/butcher Andrew

Meat – Gill Wing Farm Meat produced sustainably in East Sussex and Kent.  We’ll have lamb and chickens from Gill Wing Farm – beef from Tottingworth Farm in Heathfield, and fresh wild venison direct from High Hearstwood.   Find sausages (beef, lamb, venison), slow roasts, mince, joints and whole chickens too.  Andrew butchers much of the meat himself – find him on the stall most weeks.
