New plans for the Grape and Grain at the top of Anerley Hill are being lined up, say owners Wetherspoon.
Current host John Grover will be calling ‘last orders’ on November 5th – and plans to go out with a bang.
In a post on social media assistant manager Aedan Solomon said:
Ladies and gentlemen, we regret to announce that our fate has been sealed… after talks with JD Wetherspoon it has been announced our last day of trading will be Sunday 5th November! 😢 at least there will be fireworks!
To help us go out with a bang, make the most of us before we disappear… 🍻
Next Sunday (29th October) will be the last day we will be serving our traditional roast dinners, and also the very last Hot Jazz Sundays at the Grape & Grain. Come down to hear vintage hot jazz sounds for the last time at the Grape, 5-8pm.
Come and say goodbye over a real ale or two before it’s too late! 😢
This is not a drill. We will miss you all…
A spokesman for Wetherspoon, which owns the freehold of the site, said they would be submitting a new planning application for the pub as they want to extend and develop it.
Meanwhile the White Hart pub on the corner of Church Road and Westow Street is also closing – but only for a month.
The pub closes on October 30th, re-opening on November 23rd. Licensee Neal Helly says the major refurb includes a new garden and a new kitchen.
