Two films dealing with losing your home are being shown as part of the Crystal Palace International Film Festival tomorrow (Saturday).

‘Uprooted’ (2pm and 4pm) and ‘Dispossession’ (6pm)are being shown at Christ church Highland Road SE19. Dispossession will be foillowed by a Q and A session.

At 2.30pm there will be an update on Central Hill.

From 2 to 5pm people are being invited to bring details of any repairs they have so organisers can take them to Lambeth council.

This is the final week for the Patchwork Farm stall until next March (apart from a Christmas special on the 9th of December.)  The stall is entirely run by volunteers and offers gluts from local gardens, community gardens and allotments that would otherwise go to waste, all at a price set by the buyer.  The money raised funds our community gardens, including the new bee hive at St Johns.  A big thank you to Marina Pacheco for managing the stall, to all the volunteers, especially Sue Ayers and Julia Sainsbury, and to everyone who kindly donated produce, without whom the stall would be redundant.  Like the market, Patchwork Farm is a Crystal Palace Transition Town project.  Find out more here.

Handmade, organic bacon, made fresh and served with a bit of red and brown sauce. What more is there?  We’re also bringing back our great cheese range that has been going so well. We’ve got a new and improved smoked Morbier, a beautiful cave-aged cheddar that’s very affordable and that amazing Lincolnshire Poacher was seen to make people cry with happiness. NEW Lunch – Chilli Brothers The Schnitzel: Lightly crumbed chicken fillet served with our very own artisan chilli sauce & condiments (see above) . Great British: Schnitzel served with bacon, hispi cabbage, sauteed onion, topped with melted cheese & redcurrant relish.   Swiss: Schnitzel served with raclette cheese, mushrooms, pickles, sauteed onion & Swiss condiments. Tropical: Schnitzel served with bacon, pineapple, cheese & our own Scotch mist bonnet sauce. Thai: Schnitzel served with fried onion, spicy peanut sauce, rocket & coriander.  Don’t worry, they will have their amazing coconut and chilli sauces for sale too (see above).

Natural wines – Wine Scouts “On Saturday, I’ll open a rich, warming red from Sardinia – Sa Mola Alberto Loiis made from Cannonau (Grenache) and is ruby red tending towards garnet with an intense, slightly ethereal, rich, fragrant, floral bouquet reminiscent of mature plums, blackberries, wild berries and old rose and suggestions of aromatic wood and spices. Oh and I will also open a natural sake from a great producer in Chiba, north from Tokyo. Fresh from my last trip to Japan. Come taste!”

Olive oil – Apulia Giovanni brings us olive oil, pasta, and vegetables preserved in olive oil, from the southern district of Italy.

Cakes – Brett & Bailey  This Saturday you’ll find us back in our usual sweet spot. We’re bringing bomboloni filled with pistachio cream; there’ll be the return of our baked pear and maple cheesecake; and – as a treat for my fellow northerners in exile – sticky, spicy, homemade parkin. We’ll also have matcha cherry cake, chocolate Guinness cake, double carrot cake, apple and salted caramel cake, ginger and caramelised orange cake, and plenty of peanut butter bars.  Plus! cardamom knots, sticky buns, squidgy Fairtrade dark chocolate brownies, triple chocolate cookies, and our full range of handmade preserves. Preserves – Creative Allsorts Christine says,  “Three big treats this week: 1) Handmade organic raw apple cider vinegar featuring local apples in 250ml bottles. Each bottle has a piece of the mother culture in the vinegar.
2) Water kefir kits consisting of a 250ml bottle of refreshing light prune flavoured kefir water, a little jar of water kefir grains and a recipe for you to use to make your own. So good for you!
3) 300ml pots of chilled homemade roast tomato and garlic soup with a mini sourdough loaf. Take it home to heat up for a quick, nutritious meal after the market or a night out.
What happened to the preserves? I hear you say. They’ll all be there as well! There’s a new pear and date chutney, new batches of clementine marmalade and strawberry red wine jam, plus all your usual favourites.  See you Saturday!”
