P. Honey: Percy and his honey

As we move towards the end of the year, we’ll be listing the local places that are asking for our help.

BRIXTON AND NORWOOD FOODBANK

Brixton and Norwood Foodbank:  Manager Elizabeth says, “We’re having another of our supermarket collections on the 30th November and the 1st/2nd December to help restock our shelves and provide food for Christmas.

“This is going to be essential as our figures out this week show we have had over 1000 additional clients in first 6 month compared to last year and so we are feeding lots people.

“Please come and volunteer for two hours to help us fill all the slots.  “We’re  hoping some of those on your social media might also be able to help.”

(Please see news story which follows this item. Thanks. Ed.)

San Ferdinando Ciliegiolo Rosso: Ciliegiolo, meaning “cherry-like”, is usually reserved as a blending grape. Bottled on its own, it shows remarkably bright, crunchy red fruits and fresh acidity. San Ferdinando’s version comes from 1.7 hectares of vineyards at 320m, facing south-southeast. Fermentation occurs spontaneously and the wine ages on its lees for 5 months. No fining and a very light filtration. Only 10,000 bottles produced in 2016. YUM!”  Pedro takes online orders too.

You’ll find this last one on the cake parade with a pear and maple cheesecake, double carrot cake, chocolate Guinness cake, ginger and caramelised orange cake, and an apple and salted caramel cake.

We’ll also have pumpkin pecan pie, peanut butter bars, sticky buns, milk chocolate and orange cookies, cardamom knots, and a batch of sticky cider gingerbread with caramel apples.

You’ll also be able to get in early and pick up one of our premium Christmas cakes or luxury puddings, including a very limited number of extra-special, 12 month matured puds. As some of you might not yet be too delighted by the thought of Christmas shopping, I’ll hold off on giving you the full spiel on them until next week.  Missing the market?
