The cinema building at 25 Church Road is ‘under offer’ according to the Strettons Commercial website.
Meanwhile a poster outside the building says the church which currently own the building – KICC (Kingsway International Christian Centre) – were holding a Watchnight event in the building on New Year’s Eve.
We’re back! We have a smaller market this week as some of our traders are having a much deserved break. Don’t worry, we’ll still have veg, fruit, meat, fish, cheese, raw milk, store cupboard refills, eco refills, bread, charcuterie & chilli sauce, plus a few others. It’s important to us to trade even at reduced numbers because our small farms and producers really rely on the weekly income, plus we know our regular customers depend on us too. We’ll back up to full speed next week.

CROYDON RESIDENTS CAN RECYCLE THEIR CHRISTMAS TREES
A free Christmas tree recycling service in Croydon will run for two weeks every year from 2018, starting from 8-19 January. Residents can leave their real Christmas trees outside their property for removal, and Veolia will then take the tree for composting. This service had been due to start in January 2019, but Veolia agreed to the council’s request to start a year sooner.
With almost one million Christmas trees thrown away each year in London alone, it is important to remember that the council will take and recycle real Christmas trees.
Alternatively, trees can be taken to one of the council’s designated recycling collection points with collections on Sundays 7 and 14 January.www.croydon.gov.uk/ChristmasTreeRecycling (Source: Croydon council press release)
WEST NORWOOD 1946 ON FILM
The British Film Institute has long held a short silent film in its archives, Suburban Weekend, filmed mainly in West Norwood in 1946.
Now you can watch it courtesy of Norwood Action Group. (But you may need to sign up to their emails to view it – Ed.)
NAG’s latest email says: “What a bustling place it was even with post war austerity, with workers teeming out of Park Hall Works (then a Tannoy loudspeaker and electronics factory, a key wartime industry), kids swarming around the Regal cinema (redeveloped as B&Q in 1981), cheery drinking at the Horns Tavern, etc.
“The filmmaker was Ronald Yeatman (of the Yeatman Funeral Directors family) and the Astral Cine Club.” BFI hold four other local Astral films, say NAG.
VICTORY PLACE SIGN MISSING
The sign at Victory Place off Westow Street – opposite the Salvation Army centre – has gone missing.
A Croydon council spokesman told News From Crystal Palace: “We will install a new sign as soon as possible over the coming weeks.”
