Yes, we’re open. They weather is looking a bit frisky, but we’ll be there! (Weather forecast in following ‘Snow Business’ item – Ed.)
Patsy will be making jerk chicken & pork for lunch, Neil’s new coffee roasting stall will be up and running and Veaseys have had a good week fishing, so they’ll be well stocked. Need a hot cross bun fix? Get them from The Store Cupboard in the courtyard.
Guest lunch – Jerky Fridays
Patsy says “My menu for Saturday is rice and peas, curry mutton, jerk chicken, jerk pork, Ackee & saltfish, callaloo (v), fried dumplings, fried plantains, roast breadfruit slice.”
Vegan lunch – Return to Shashamane Emilia is making us “Salads & accompaniments – lentil bake; chickpea salad with wakame seaweed; kidney beans with cardamom seeds and fresh tarragon; butter beans toasted with seeds and herbs; Mexican cabbage salad with herbs, chillies and onion; polenta chips; coriander chimmichurri sauce; quinoa salad. Hot – butter beans puree; spicy sauce with cayenne pepper; lentil tikka masala stew. Sweet – raw brownies.”
Lunch – Meru Galettes Sweet crepes or savoury buckwheat galettes.
Lunch & deli – Comfort & Joy Hot tasty wraps, salads and those famous (enormous) scotch eggs plus takeaways – curries, lasagne and more.
NEW STALL Coffee and Raw Cakes – Brewtal Coffee & Blowing Dandelion – Neil says “We are coffee roasters with a difference. Inspired by the Brutalist architecture found throughout this great city, we are roasting and brewing raw, unpretentious coffee for you to enjoy at home. Buy the beans whole or ask for them to be ground for you on the stall. We welcome you to join us in the quest for coffee and Brutalist enlightenment. (Please note, you do not have to live or work in a Brutalist building to enjoy this brutally honest coffee).” Neil will also be stocking Michella’s raw cakes, brownies and chocolates. Gluten free – Owl Kitchen Mel is making “Carrot cake, chocolate brownies, lemon and raspberry sandwich, raspberry frangipane tarts, chocolate lime drizzle cake. Sugar free/dairy free – purple velvet torte. Vegan – chocolate avocado cake, chocolate raspberry cake, peanut butter squares. Savoury -mini extra mature cheddar and onion quiche.”
Marinated olives – Yellow Sunshine Fresh marinated olives, garlic, wild garlic, vegan turkish delight and hand-made baklava.
Chilli sauce – Chilli Brothers Nathalie says “We will be here with a wonderful selection of Artisan Crafted Chilli Sauces hot or not too hot, Chilli Syrup & our nutritious Organic Coconut Oil Blended with Organic Raw Cacao & Peanut. Come down to say hello!”
Ferments – Terra Ferment Turmeric kraut, classic kimchi & Salvadoran curtido, made by Justin in South Norwood.
Smokery – London Smoke & Cure Ross says “This week on the stall we’ve two brand new cheese that we’re really excited about and we’re sure you will be too. First up is the amazing ‘Baron Bigod’, Britain’s first ever raw milk Brie which is frankly delicious and and easily good enough to make the French more than a little jealous. And next we have the famous Stichelton. Many of you will know it but if not think Stilton but altogether more creamy (and better!).
There’ll be more of course – Poacher, Caerphilly, Machego, Comte – to name but a few. Rest assured your weekend dairy need are well catered for.
Scottish weather has limited our smoked salmon stocks for this week but we’ll have a few pots of roasted salmon pate which many of you seem to go a bit gaga for. Alongside that we’ve got fresh stocks of salami from our local Perinelli salami guy as well as our own hot smoked duck.
Oh, and bacon! Bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon. Note to self, don’t forget bacon. Smoked, streaky and back. See you down there.”
Natural Wines – Wine Scouts Pedro says “Hello! This Sat I will open the new vintage of one of my favourite reds from Austria: Judith Beck Blaufrankisch. Biodynamic, lively, fresh and very approachable natural red from Burgenland, East from Vienna. This is a great example of how Austrian wines can have both finesse and drinkability, a deliciously light red made from the Blaufrankisch grape that really packs a punch with flavour. Dark cherry red, with a bright nose of blackberry fruit and a smooth, supple palate. The tannins are soft and the finish is spicy and fruit. YUM!”

Meat – Gill Wing Farm Andrew is bringing “Whole chicken, breast, thighs, drumsticks and wings. Beef mince, rump fillet and sirloin steak. Top side, rib of beef. Diced beef. Lamb mince, shoulder, leg, chops, neck fillet. Pork loin, belly, chops, shoulder. Herb sausages big and small, venison sausages, lamb merguez. Bacon smoked unsmoked and streaky.”
Fish – Veasey’s Dan says “The weather has not been too bad so fair fishing this week, we’ve seen some lovely Cod, some of the biggest Dover Sole we’ve ever seen and some lovely plump Lemon Sole.

Premium quality extra virgin olive oil from Alghero, North Sardegna. Cow and sheep’s Blue cheese. Semisoft goat cheese. raw honey and gluten free traditional sardinian cured meat Yo!”
Raw milk, butter & other dairy – Hook & Son Organic raw milk and dairy, from farmer Steve’s closed herd on the Pevensey Levels. They’ve been featured on Channel 4, “A Year on the Farm” – check it out here. NEW on the stall is organic Labneh – middle eastern inspired yoghurt – find it alongside their divine ghee, raw cream and butter.
Cakes – Brett & Bailey Joe says “With Easter just around the corner, it’s time to welcome back our Speckled Egg Cake. This rich chocolate sponge comes layered with golden caramel and finished with duck egg blue vanilla buttercream, and you’ll find it on the stall alongside our white chocolate and passion fruit cheesecake, chocolate Guinness cake, double carrot cake, and raspberry pistachio crumbles. Also, Rhubarbra Streisandis still at large.
We’ll also have blueberry lemon and poppy seed bakewells, cardamom knots, salted chocolate brownies, peanut butter bars with milk chocolate ganache and salted caramel drizzle, sticky buns, bags of Turkish delight, our full range of delectable homemade jams and marmalades (including the very real possibility of lemon curd too), a basketful of our very favourite peanut butter and milk choc chip cookies, and semlor by the score – we’ll only have them for a couple more weeks, so snap them up while you can.
