Pub group Antic are planning to open a third site on Westow Hill – in the former Plumbase premises which was originally built as a Burton tailors store.
Antic already own Westow House on the corner of Crystal Palace Parade and the recently-opened Walker Briggs pub.
A planning application to Croydon says the planned pub would open 9 am to 1 am Mondays to fridays and Suindays with a 9am to 2am license on Saturdays.
But a leaflet circulating locally says that Westow Hill already has eight premises with a late night licence plus 15 premises with alcohol licences.
The unattributed leaflet argues there are hundreds of derelict and vacant pubs all over London – including the long-empty Cambridge on the corner of Westow Hill and Church Road.
The planning application for 58 – 60 Westow Hill reads as follows:
18/01332/FUL | Alterations: Use of ground floor as a public house ; installation of shopfront and awning ; erection of extractor fan at rear ; erection of gate in side access and provision of landscaping features ; provision of associated refuse storage to rear (corrected description).
The leaflet asks people wishing to oppose the plans to go online on the Croydon council websuite http://www.croydon.gov.uk/online plans and search the planning applications with reference 18/01332/FUL, by email to email@example.com or by letter to Development Management, Place Department, Bernard Weatherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon CRO 1EA.
Deadline for objections is April 21st.
Meanwhile The Faber Fox is set to open at 25 Westow Hill in mid-May as part of the Livelyhood pub chain.
