CINEMA OPEN BEFORE CHRISTMAS? Campaigners meet Everyman bosses

Members of the Picture Palace Campaign / Cinema4CrystalPalace met Crispin Lilly, chief executive officer of Everyman Cinemas at Bar Joe on Church Road last week.

The meeting was to discuss the new Everyman venue on the site of the original cinema at 25 Church Road, Crystal Palace.

As News From Crystal Palace has previously reported Everyman have bought the building from Kingsway International Christian Centre.

Crispin issued the following statement:

“The Everyman team, including operations, marketing, film and myself, met with representatives of the Cinema for Crystal Palace committee on 4th April 2018.

“A convivial and animated exchange of views followed a presentation Everyman gave of artist impressions of the site, including a debate as to whether the rumoured ‘baptismal font’ would be integrated into the design scheme.

“Whilst we don’t have an exact opening date for the site as yet, I hope, subject to inspections by the Everyman property team, that the Crystal Palace Everyman will be open this side of Christmas 2018.

“I expect a much clearer view by the end of April, after the initial asbestos inspection, and hope to be able to announce a more accurate timeframe soon thereafter.

“A huge thank you to Joe of Bar Joe, for hosting the meeting.”

Crystal Palace Everyman, when open, will show a diverse range of quality films, offer the traditional range of Everyman food and beverage, including hand made pizzas, Spielburger Burgers and offer our excellent wine & beer list, all served at seat, in our signature sofas.

Everyman Cinemas have 22 venues across the UK, with new venues set to open in Altrincham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, as well as Crystal Palace in 2018.

Current Everyman Cinema Locations: Baker Street, Barnet, Belsize Park, Birmingham, Bristol, Canary Wharf, Chelmsford, Esher, Gerard’s Cross, Hampstead, Harrogate, Islington (Screen on the Green), Kings Cross, Leeds, Muswell Hill, Maida Vale, Oxted, Reigate, Stratford upon Avon, Walton–on–Thames & Winchester & York, the most recent, which opened in Dec 2017.

  1. I hope we can count on Everyman to pay the London Living Wage unlike their not so popular competitors Picturehouse, who will be very soon feeling the pressure of public opinion at their much vaunted West Norwood site.
