LAMBETHWATCH: BEWARE OF MAKING COMMENTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA – LAMBETH LABOUR’S THOUGHT POLICE ARE WATCHING

The following light-hearted exchange took place on Twitter last week:

Aran Lewis‏ @aranmlewis May 25

If his faction gets back into power they will probably change the name of the National Health Service to the Community Wellbeing Hub, and then we will have to have a serious debate to figure out what the hell it means.

Andy Plant‏ @andyplant08 Replying to @aranmlewis @cedawnow and 2 others

Well, my argument would be that the “Community Wellbeing Hub” should be a venue where constituents could don boxing gloves and take out their anger on their MP, physically. 11:12 AM – 25 May 2018

And this is Lambeth Labour’s interpretation on Andy Plant’s comment:

Ed Davie‏ @EdDavie May 25 (Lambeth Labour Cllr – Ed.) Retweeted Andy Plant

Lambeth Green Party candidate advocates physically assaulting elected representatives not that long after a Labour MP was murdered

Mr Alex Bigham‏ @alexbigham May 25 (Mr because he’s no longer a Lambeth Labour cllr who once posted photos of a yawning cat – Ed.) Retweeted Iain Simpson

Terrible to see Lambeth Green Party candidate calling for violent assault on an MP. Have we learnt nothing from attacks on Jo Cox and Stephen Timms?

LambethLabour Retweeted Iain Simpson‏ @IainSimpson May 25 (Lambeth Labour Cllr who once famously stated: “I don’t really see why we’re here”*)

Outrageous that anyone, let alone a former candidate, is calling for political opponents to be beaten up. Sincerely hope that @Lambethgp @jon_bartley @CarolineLucas will do the responsible thing and immediately condemn this appalling comment.

LambethLabour‏ @LambethLabour Retweeted Andy Plant

Presume you condemn this @jon_bartley? Green candidate suggesting physical attacks on Labour MPs. What happened to the Greens opposing bullying and intimidation?

LambethLabour‏ @LambethLabour May 26

Still no word from @jon_bartley. Is it acceptable to talk about going to surgeries to physically attack Labour MPs?

(Surgeries weren’t even mentioned. And Mr Plant didn’t specify which party these MPs would belong to. Interesting how Lambeth Labour twists things, isn’t it?. Also interesting that Lambeth Labour chose to attack Andy Plant, a Cressingham Gardens resident who stood for Tulse Hill ward where he lives rather than Lambeth Conservative Cllr Tim Briggs who warned last week’s council meeting that if you bottle up people’s frustrations and people’s inability to express themselves it expresses itself through violence……

And that’s something News From Crystal Palace has felt for the past few months. Violence borne out of total frustration with a regime that doesn’t listen, won’t change its minds. From some unfortunate who’s not on any radar. Ed.)

THOUGHT POLICE: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), by George Orwell, the Thought Police (Thinkpol) are the secret police of the superstate Oceania, who discover and punish thoughtcrime, personal and political thoughts unapproved by the Party. The Thinkpol use criminal psychology and omnipresent surveillance (telescreens, microphones, informers) to search for and find, monitor and arrest all citizens of Oceania who would commit thoughtcrime in challenge to the status quo authority of the party and the regime of Big Brother.
