CRYSTAL PALACE PARK ROAD TO REMAIN SHUT FOLLOWING SERIOUS WATER LEAK

Crystal Palace Park Road will remain closed for a further number of days Bromley council said this afternoon (Friday).

Thames Water are making emergency repairs to a serious water leak in Crystal Palace Park Road near the junction of Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham.

The road closure has led to the 227 bus being diverted down Anerley Hill and Anerley Road and into Croydon Road, Penge. Penge High Street from the Pawleyne Arms pub is for access only. Other bus routes have also been diverted.

“We understand there are a number of issues on site” a council spokesman told News From Crystal Palace.
“They had a number of leaks which have been quite complex and difficult for them. “It’s an emergency situation.”

He said some homes in both SE20 and SE19 had been without water in the early stages.

To minimise congestion, temporary three way traffic lights are now in operation.

Work on the water main cannot be undertaken during the daytime, because the water main is in demand and local residents are likely to be affected by the loss of water, Thames Water can only work on it after 21:00 hours.

Works were due to have been completed today (Friday).

An earlier council statement said: “It is understood that there is potential sewer damage from the impact of the burst water main and Thames Water are arranging for their waste water inspectors to look into this. If the sewer is damaged, this may delay the completion date. (Source: Bromley council press release)
