More and more decisions are being taken by individual cabinet members at Lambeth council, research by News From Crystal Palace has found.
Decisions taken by individual cabinet members this year have included approving the award for phase two of the controversial redevelopment of Carnegie library for £1,173,001.60.
Decisions taken by officers without going to committee this year have included sensitive issues such as the appointment of an independent appeal panel for the Lambeth children’s homes redress scheme relating to “industrial-scale” child abuse at Shirley Oaks and other children’s homes controlled by Lambeth council and their predecessors.
Others have related to a proposed controlled parking zone in the Streatham Hill area and a contract extension for ‘independent advice services’ for Central Hill estate, Crystal Palace.
There is no suggestion of any impropriety or illegal action on the part of any cabinet member or council officer regarding any delegated decisions made at any time.
