SATURDAY: LONDON MOZART PLAYERS LAUNCH 70th ANNIVERSARY SEASON – STARTS THIS SATURDAY

Vacations, Violins and Virtuozok
– our 70th anniversary season launch!

As we all kick back for the weekend, here’s a little reminder about our 70th anniversary concert series launch at St John the Evangelist, our home in Upper Norwood, next weekend on Saturday 22ndSeptember. We are looking forward to welcoming all our supporters to this stunning church and we promise you an inspiring programme of classical gems that will take you back to the sultry, sunny days of summer 2018.

In fact, we’re taking you on a tour of the Mediterranean! We’ll take you to Algiers with Rossini (Overture toThe Italian Girl in Algiers), then off to the Bosphorus for Mozart’s Violin Concerto in A (with it’s ‘Turkish’ allegro) a quick sojourn in Spain (Waxman’s Carmen Fantasie based on Bizet’s Carmen) and finally a leisurely stay in Italy (Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony). So grab your sunnies and sun lotion and head down to SE19!

We are excited to announce that this concert sees the UK debut of a hugely talented young violinist, Radu Kis, who has won several music competitions across Europe including the Virtuózok competition in Hungary, and who has just started his studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music. He will be demonstrating his virtuosity with the Mozart Violin Concerto in A and the Waxman Carmen Fantasie – the latter is a particularly fine showpiece for violinists and something we are really looking forward to! He is a star of the future and you can be the first in the UK to witness his talent.

But don’t take our word for it; here’s a link to a video of Radu’s competition-winning performance at the Virtuózok competition. Mesmerising!

And as a bonus, the concert kicks off with a performance of the Anthem for Peace. Many LMP supporters kindly helped to crowdfund this commission which was composed to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. We know that some of you have not yet heard this live, so do come along on 22ndSeptember and enjoy the performance by the St Christopher’s and Open Door choirs to mark International Peace Day (21st September).

What a fantastic start to our 70th birthday season; see you there!
