News From Crystal Palace can reveal why the Carnegie library at Herne Hill has security guards there: the library is not connected to an alarm receiving centre.
The current security cost is £10,314 per month. This includes one security officer who is on site overnight, ensuring a 24/7 presence.
The library is currently closed for redecoration.
But NFCP can assure readers the fire alarm is working
Cost of linking Carnegie library to an alarm receiving centre? A quick search on the web found one costs £500 for an eight-bedroomed house…..
Economics of the madhouse.
MEANWHILE ON THE TWITTERSPHERE, A TALE OF TWO CITIES
Three examples of how far apart Lambeth Labour and their critics are as to what constitutes reality:
SaveLambethLibraries @SaveLambthLibs .
Of course had you fixed the roof when it was stolen it wouldn’t have been left empty & the Library wouldn’t have moved to temporary unsatisfactory accommodation & @LambethLabour wouldn’t be doing dodgy deals with @picturehouses giving away our community assets & bundles of cash!
(Responding to Lambeth Labour Cllr Ed Davie who had posted about the re-opening of West Norwood library::
Yay @LambethLabour @lambeth_council creating another new library to add to @claphamlib and refurbed @brixtonlibrary and @streathamlib)
.Laura Swaffield @lswaffield1
Larger groups of Lambeth residents rallied today to oppose council’s disastrous plans to wreck libraries (demo in Parliament Sq) & council estates (demo at City Hall) – in both cases costing MILLIONS more than maintaining them properly.
(Responding to Lambeth Labour Cllr Jim Dickson who had posted:
With @LambethLabour colleagues campaigning with the message that – the Tories may be claiming that austerity has ended but cuts in funding to councils providing vital local services continue unabated #labourdoorstep)
…….while Lambeth Labour responded on their Twitter feed to a comment from Cllr Jon Bartley, Green opposition leader on Lambeth:
Cllr Jon Bartley (Lambeth’s Green opposition leader)
Greens got Lambeth Council to stop sending in the bailiffs against the most vulnerable residents who were in receipt of Council Tax Support. It appears they have now started again. This is appalling.
LambethLabour @LambethLabour Retweeted Jonathan Bartley
Agents only call people as a last attempt when they are in debt. They absolutely don’t knock on people’s doors and it is completely false to say that Lambeth council is “sending in the bailiffs”. Green scaremongering to mislead people once again
