Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after young mother died and her child was left critically injured following a road traffic collision in Penge.
Police were called to Croydon Road, Penge, at 20.08hrs on Sunday (January 13th) following reports of a serious collision.
Officers and London Ambulance attended and found a car had been in collision with a 23-year-old female pedestrian, who was pushing a pram carrying her eight-month-old baby son.
Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the mother was declared dead at the scene.
The baby boy was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, stopped at the scene. He was taken to hospital for treatment to non life-threatening injuries.
He has since been discharged; he has not been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are asking anyone with dash-cam footage, or who witnessed the incident, to come forward and speak to police.

Appeal after fatal fail to stop road traffic collision in Lambeth
Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a fatal fail to stop collision in Lambeth.
Police were called at 00:30hrs on Saturday (January 12th) to Brixton Hill, junction with New Park Road, following reports of a car in collision with a pedestrian.
Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
Despite their best efforts the pedestrian, a female aged in her early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.
The driver of the vehicle, which was travelling at speed, did not stop at the scene. Police have since found the car and issued the name of an individual they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
