McDonald’s could be returning to the Triangle – moving in to the former Living Water Satisfies premises on Westow Street.
A planning application has been submitted by the burger chain’s head office to Croydon council for a fascia sign and a projecting sign,- at 46-48 Westow Street on the corner of Haynes Lane. But it appears they need to also apply for a change of use as the new venture would be takeaway only.
Croydon Cllr Stephen Mann (Lab, Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood ward) told News From Crystal Palace: “After contacting officers about their plans, officers agree change of use is required. “The applicant is being asked to withdraw the application and resubmit.
“I’m hoping change of use will give us some more teeth to regulate the site better as I’ve serious concerns with the takeaway only model and parking etc” he added.
McDonald’s used to have a restaurant on Westow Hill just to the left of the Iceland store. The building, which once housed a David Greig grocers, has since been demolished. Estate agents Kinleigh Folkard and Hayward now occupy the site.
(Note: McDonald’s plans have caused a wide range of opinions on the Crystal Palace Local Facebook page – Ed.)
