Dear #Together Supporter Anti-democratic attacks on our basic mobility and liberty are happening all over the UK – egged on by powerful voices. Wherever you are, we’re asking you to come and make your voice heard in protest #together with us in London on Sat 15 April at Trafalgar Square… While this event is mainly billed as a ULEZ protest, we will have speakers from all over the UK, because it’s important to realise: ULEZ extension is basically the same as “Low Traffic Neighbourhoods”, “15 Minute Cities” and all the rest of it… Restrict, control, spy, tax… imposed on us from above… without any democratic mandate! But London is also a ‘domino’ – they get this away, other cities will follow suit, then towns, and before you know it, simply moving around the way you want in the UK will likely be severely impeded. So we’re asking you today to please do the following: Step 1: PUT IN YOUR DIARY TO BRING FRIENDS TO OUR PROTEST IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE, LONDON, 12PM-3PM ON SATURDAY 15 APRIL! Step 2: COMPLAIN TO THE BBC FOR PUSHING FALSE ULEZ CLAIMS On 2 April, on BBC TV’s ‘Politics London,’ (recording here) MP Rushanara Ali repeatedly claimed “4,000 people a year die (in London) because of toxic air,” further repeating a second false claim, that “118 people have died in Sutton” in the last year. The BBC then repeated this false claim as a headline, with video clip, on social media – at time of writing their post has almost 500,000 views on Twitter alone. This claim is absolute nonsense. These “4,000 people in London” or “118 people in Sutton” DO NOT EXIST.  As we explained at length in our in-depth report HERE, and in shorter format HERE, these claims are totally misleading statistical constructs, based on an Imperial College modelling report (no, really) commissioned by offices of the London Mayor. In fact, the Office for National Statistics record ONE death due to air pollution in London over TWENTY years from 2001 – 2021. It’s not acceptable for the BBC to allow this ludicrous claim, virtually unchallenged, on the airwaves – and then add insult to injury by leading with it on official social media accounts. → Please complain to the BBC HERE about this, and let them know your feelings in your own words.
