Blocked-off roads: Lewisham and Lee Green LTN cost £816,000 to introduce, FOI request reveals

The Lewisham and Lee Green Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme cost £816,000 to introduce,a Freedom of Information request by News From Crystal Palace has revealed.

A total of 170,413 penalty charge notices have been issued since the scheme was introduced in May 2020*.

Of these 32,330 were challenged – and a massive 25,609 overturned.

*The responses come in Lewisham council’s release of their answers to a Department for Transport survey on LTNs issued around August last year.

News From Crystal Palace had asked Lewisham:

Dear Lewisham council,

In September 2023, DfT wrote to approximately 130 Local Highway and Transport authorities in England with an invitation to complete a survey about LTN schemes. The Department received 42 survey submissions among 130 invited to take part. Of these, 26 reported details of LTN schemes implementedin their area and 16 reported zero LTN schemes (four submissions were additionally received via email).A total of 99 schemes were identified by responding authorities. 

  • Were Lewisham asked to complete this survey please?
  • If they did, please could you send a copy of any response (including submissions) Lewisham made to the Dft  please?
  • If Lewisham did not complete the survey or send any other response please could you say why not?
