Food Market: A tribute to Steve Broe – Thank you for the music…

Saturday June 8th 10-3pm

Firstly, in some sad news, Steve Broe (pictured), who ran the busking at the market for a number of years, passed away last week surrounded by family and friends.

A musician and tireless activist fighting for the rights of the homeless, he was acknowledged by Jeremy Corbyn in this tweet and in many other tributes.

More details here, “Tributes paid to Steve Broe, musician whose gigs included the food market (but is revealed as someone who was much, much more)“.

RIP Steve and thanks for all the music and words.

Wine

  • Wine Scouts
The Wine Scout  Naturally produced wines from around the world, sourced by Pedro.  Each week he opens two tasters so you can sample his range.

Pedro says, “Hello! This Saturday we will taste two delicious wines.

The white Selection Massale Pinot Gris from Wairau Valley inNew Zealand is brimming with citrus, stonefruit and just a hint of toasted almond. The palate is light, dry and refreshing but the flavours are concentrated and the finish is saline and persistent. Overall the wine is balanced and nuanced. The fruit was destemmed and whole-bunch pressed into stainless steel where it underwent a cold fermentation on fine lees to retain purity of fruit and give the wine an overall focus.

We will also taste the red Ventoux La Gérine Ferme Saint-Martin from the Rhône in France. This is an elegant, racy wine that reveals lovely purity with dark berry fruits on the nose and aromas of wild bay-leaf and roasted herb to give the palate an extra dimension. La Gérine, a Grenache/Carignan blend, undergoes a semi-carbonic maceration without sulphur and using indigenous yeasts. The grapes are lightly trodden by foot and, after vinification, the wine is bottled without filtration and with a very light dose of sulphur.”
