SCAM ALERT!!! ANYONE LOOKING FOR THEIR LOST PET WILL INEVITABLY BE SCAMMED (From Nextdoor social media):

I’ve just had a call from ‘Marvin’ supposedly from (named) local pet health centre, claiming to have had my cat brought in. They were almost convincing but requested a £5.00 release fee. They booked in the collection slot to pick up beloved pet ‘do u have a pet carrier? Your cat is in good health, looked after by an elderly couple for three days…’ on & on. The card was declined, they tried again, saying it was their machine. By this time I realised it was a scam. They then called back, changed their voice pretending to be the bank! Fortunately I checked the vet centre – no cat of mine there. Called the bank – three attempts made to take cash, all failed. All details are on the leaflets / posters so they can feed back your own info to you Please be careful pet owners!!!

Responses include this classic – Ed.:

My cat went missing for four days last month, i received the same call, but when they called me my cat was already home. Those people are so dumb they try to convince me that my cat was with them even when I was saying that my cat was at home. It was the same history, claiming to be from the same vet clinic. Be careful people.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED

Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood Safer Neighbourhood Team were called to a possible stolen vehicle that was parked on a residents car park .

On arrival further checks were conducted and it was confirmed that the vehicle in question was stolen. We managed to find the details of the registered keeper who was very pleased with his vehicle being found.

Pick up for the vehicle was arranged with the victim who left with his vehicle and a smile on his face! Great outcome for the team as we reunited an owner of a vehicle with their vehicle! (Source: Crystal Palace Upper Norwood Safer Neighbourhood Team)

Have your say on new measures to tackle antisocial behaviour in Croydon town centre

Croydon council have launched a six-week consultation on a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to cover the town centre, which would use council powers to support the police to tackle antisocial behaviour.

PSPOs are used to address specific nuisances or problems, which are detrimental to local quality of life, by imposing conditions on the use of a particular area.

These orders allow councils and the police to specifically target antisocial behaviour and create safer and more welcoming environments for local residents, visitors, and businesses.

The proposed PSPO would cover the town centre and its surrounding area, including parts of South Croydon and Broad Green. This is to cover antisocial behaviour hotspots close to the town centre, preventing it moving from the town centre to nearby parks and public spaces. See a map of the proposed area here.

Proposed conditions of the new town centre PSPO include allowing the police to seize and dispose of open alcohol containers, disperse individuals causing harassment, distress or alarm, and enforcement through fines or prosecutions.

The council will work with frontline police officers to raise awareness of the new order and make a noticeable positive impact on the local area.

The consultation, which was approved by Croydon’s executive Mayor, Jason Perry, at Cabinet earlier this month, runs until Thursday 15 September.

Residents are asked to let the council know about their personal experiences of antisocial behaviour and alcohol related crime in central Croydon, as well as their views on how to tackle this – the consultation can be accessed online here. (Source: Croydon council press release)
